Molecular Laboratory

CeBER has a well-resourced molecular biology facility, driven primarily by the desire to use molecular tools to study the microbial ecology of complex biological systems, and hence, facilitates the development of modified organisms for bioproduct studies. The laboratory is equipped for protein and DNA extraction and quantification, amplification by polymerase chain reaction (conventional and real-time), and evaluation by electrophoresis (agarose, PAGE and DGGE).  Additionally, the resources include both light and fluorescence microscopy, with digital imaging capabilities, as well as specialised software packages for digital imaging analysis and DNA sequence analysis.
