PROJECT TITLE: Investigation into accelerated sulphide mineral leaching from waste rock for the purpose of ARD mitigation

Alex left his home town of Durban and began his Chemical Engineering career at UCT in 2003, where he graduated with his BSc and MSc in 2007 and 2013 respectively. He is currently registered for his PhD (which will be completed jointly through Minerals to Metals and CeBER) and is actively involved with Brewing UCT – a multi-award winning, student-run micro-brewery. Outside of the Department, he is husband to UCT lecturer, Dr Elaine Govender-Opitz and is father to their baby boy, Kuno.
