All the conventional devices for measuring pH, redox potential (Eh), dissolved oxygen, and conductivity are available. In addition, specially-designed microprobes are available for measuring parameters in biofilms and other precision systems.

From an analytical perspective, CeBER is well-equipped with several VIS spectrophotometers, a UV-VIS (scanning) spectrophotometer, a micro-titre plate reader, three dedicated high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems, two gas chromatography (GC) systems, facilities for size exclusion and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) systems, and a custom-made cyanide analyser (Mintek Cyanoprobe). 

The Microcalorimiter in Controlled Environment Room

A TAM III microcalorimeter (TA Instruments, USA) is available to monitor heat flow to/from batch samples continuously and non-invasively. It is fitted with a six channel multi-calorimeter module which can take up to 4 mL ampoules. The TAM III has high-precision temperature control (to within 0.0001°C) and can be operated isothermally or in a temperature scanning mode over a range of 15 to 150°C. It has a detection limit of 0.5 μW and a baseline stability (over a period of 24 h) of ± 0.2 μW. The microcalorimeter is housed in the CeBER Clean Environment Laboratory, but is shared with other research groups.
